FARMINGDALE (WABC) -- Police are investigating an alleged hazing incident on Long Island.
The attorney for the victim says a senior football player at Farmingdale High School tried to assault a teammate with a broomstick last thursday in the locker room.
Attorney Robert P. Kelly told Newsday that the victim, a junior, grabbed the broomstick and snapped it. The boy and his father then filed a complaint with Nassau County police.
The Farmingdale Union Free School District issued the following statement:
"There was an interaction between an 11th and 12th grade student in the locker room last Thursday after a sports practice. Fortunately no one was injured. The district does not tolerate inappropriate behavior of any kind and expects all students to adhere to our strict code of conduct. The incident was thoroughly investigated and immediate and appropriate disciplinary measures were taken by the district. As always the district will cooperate fully with any future investigations of this incident by local authorities."The same law firm, Kelly & Rubin, LLP. of Manhattan, represented two victims in the 2003 Mepham High School hazing case, in which older students sexually abused younger teammates with broomsticks, pine cones and golf balls at a summer training camp.
In that case, the attackers were punished by a Pennsylvania court and the district canceled the football season.
